Djokovic, dudang makapaglalaro sa US Open sa kabila ng pagkapanalo sa Wimbledon

Sinabi ni Novak Djokovic na kamakailan ay nagkampeon sa Wimbledon, na malamang na hindi pa rin siya makapaglalaro sa US Open ngayong taon, dahil sa patuloy niyang pagtanggi na magpabakuna laban sa coronavirus.

Ang unvaccinated status ng 35-anyos na Serbian, ay nangangahulugan na hindi siya papayagang makapasok sa Estados Unidos upang lumahok sa torneo na magsisimula na sa susunod na buwan.

Matatandaang si Djokovic ay ipina-deport mula sa Australia dahil sa kaniyang vaccination status noong Enero, sanhi para hindi niya maidepensa ang kaniyang Australian Open title.

Ayon kay Djokovic . . . “At the moment I can’t go to the United States, I’m hoping for positive news, but there’s not a lot of time, I don’t know, hope springs eternal. I’d like to play the US Open but if it doesn’t happen it’s not the end of the world, nor the first Grand Slam I have to withdraw from. It’s important to me to stay healthy, physically and mentally, so I can still play for a long time and the chances to do so will certainly come.”

Dinaig ng Serbian top seed si Nick Kyrgios ng Australia sa apat na sets noong Linggo, para sa ika-pito niyang All England Club at ika-21 Grand Slam crown sa kabuuan.

Sinabi pa nito . . . “People asked me, speaking about my records, what was my favourite number and I cited one of my idols, who is no longer with us, Kobe Bryant. My favourite title is the next one.”
