Hindi bababa sa 12 katao ang nasawi sa Peru, nang magkasagupa ang anti-government protesters at security forces makaraang tangkain ng mga nagpo-protesta na lusubin ang isang paliparan.

Sinabi ng isang opisyal mula sa tanggapan ng lokal na ombudsman, na nangyari ang karahasan sa southeastern city ng Juliaca, sa Puno region.

Nais ng mga nagpo-protesta na patalsikin na si President Dina Boluarte, na naupo sa puwesto matapos mapatalsik at maaresto ang dating pangulo na si Pedro Castillo noong December 7.

Ang pagpapatalsik kay Castillo matapos niyang subukang buwagin ang kongreso at simulan ang pamumuno sa pamamagitan ng isang decree, ay nagbunsod ng ilang linggong sagupaan sa buong Peru, isang bansa na ilang taon nang pinahihirapan ng kawalang katatagan sa pulitika.
