Formal commissioning ng BRP Melchora Aquino sa Independence Day, pangungunahan ni Pangulong Duterte

Pangungunahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang formal commissioning ng bagong capital ship ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), ang BRP Melchora Aquino, bukas, June 12.

Ang formal commissioning ng 97-meter multi-role response vessel na binili ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) at ng PCG sa ilalim ng Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project ng DOTr, ay kaalinsabay ng paggunita ng bansa sa Araw ng Kalayaan (Independence Day).

Ayon sa PCG, ang BRP Melchora Aquino, na dumating sa Port of Manila noong May 27, ang ikalawang multi-role response vessel ng PCG, na BRP Teresa Magbanua ang una.

Sinabi ng PCG na ang modelo ng BRP Melchora Aquino ay isinunod sa Kunigami class vessel ng Japan Coast Guard, na may maximum speed nahindi bababa sa 24 knots at endurance na hindi bababa sa 4000 nautical miles.

Ayon sa PCG . . . “With the commissioning…, the PCG is now more capable of conducting patrols in the country’s maritime jurisdictions, including the West Philippine Sea and Philippine Rise.”
