SC nagbaba ng writ of kalikasan laban sa Golden Rice at Bt Eggplant

Nagpalabas ang Korte Suprema ng writ of kalikasan laban sa commercial release ng genetically modified rice at eggplant products na Golden Rice at Bacillus thuringiensis Eggplant (Bt Eggplant.)

Sa sesyon ng Supreme Court En Banc, inatasan din ang mga respondent na Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Plant Industry BPI), Philippine Rice Research Institute, at University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) na maghain ng verified return sa loob ng 10 araw.

Ibinaba ng SC ang kautusan matapos ang inihaing petisyon noong 2022 ng Magasasaka at Siyentipiko Para sa Pag-Unlad ng Agrikultura (MASIPAG).

Sinabi ng petitioners na ang Golden Rice at Bt Eggplant ay genetically modified organisms.

Nais ng MASIPAG na pigilan ng Korte Suprema ang DA na mag-isyu ng biosafety permits para sa propagasyon ng Bt Eggplants at Golden Rice.

Ipinapawalang-bisa rin ng grupo ang biosafety permits na inisyu ng DA at isinulong ang pagsasagawa ng independent risks at impact assessments, at kunin ang informed consent ng mga magsasaka at indigenous peoples.
