Pagbebenta ng sigarilyo, planong ihinto ng New Zealand

Inanunsiyo ng New Zealand ang plano nito na epektibong ipagbawal ang paninigarilyo sa pamamagitan ng unti-unting pagtataas sa edad ng maaaring bumili ng mga produktong tabako.

Ito ay kauna-unahan sa buong mundo, kung saan ang mga kabataan ay hindi na legal na makabibili ng sigarilyo.

Sa kasalukuyan, ay ipinagbabawal ng New Zealand ang pagbebenta ng tabako sa mga wala pang 18 taong gulang at sinabi ng Associate Health Minister na si Ayesha Verrall na mula 2027, ang edad na pagbabawalang bumili ng tabako ay itataas na taun-taon.

Ayon kay Verrall . . . We want to make sure people never start smoking… as they age, they and future generations will never be able to legally purchase tobacco, because the truth is there is no safe age to start smoking. The government would also legislate to restrict where tobacco is sold and only allow products with low nicotine levels into the market, to reduce the prospects of people becoming addicted.”

Dagdag pa nito . . . This is a historic day for the health of our people. Smoking is still the leading cause of preventable death in New Zealand and causes one in four cancers.” (AFP)
