Alert level sa bulkang Mayon, itinaas

Itinaas ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) sa alert level 1 ang Mayon Volcano, kasunod ng anila’y low-level unrest.

Ito ang naging konklusiyon ng PHIVOLCS, matapos nilang ma-obserbahan ang ground deformation bukod pa sa ilang low-frequency volcanic earthquakes sa mga unang bahagi ng 2022.

Sinabi ng PHIVOLCS, na sa pamamagitan ng visual at camera monitoring, ay naka-detect ito ng “remnant lava dome emplaced towards the end of the 2018 eruption has undergone a change in morphology and slight extrusion” sa pagitan ng June 6 at August 20, 2022.

Naka-detect din sila ng panandaliang pagtaas sa bilang ng low-frequency volcanic earthquakes mula Mayo 26 hanggang Hunyo 20.

Ayon sa ahensiya, “These observation parameters indicate that volcanic gas-induced pressurization at the shallow depths of the edifice may be occurring, causing the summit dome of Mayon to be pushed out.”

Pinaalalahanan ng PHIVOLCS ang publiko na ipinagbabawal ang pagpasok sa 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone ng Mayon Volcano.

Sinabi pa ng PHILVOCS, “We are closely monitoring Mayon Volcano’s activity and any new development will be immediately communicated to all concerned.”
