Content ng Facebook na may problema na-promote dahil sa internal bug

Nagkamaling i-prioritize kamakailan ang content sa Facebook feeds ng users na natukoy bilang mapanlinlang o may problema, dahil sa isang software bug na inabot ng anim na buwan bago naayos ayon sa tech site na The Verge.

Tinutulan naman ng Facebook ang report na nailathala nitong Huwebes, at ayon kay Joe Osborne, tagapagsalita para sa parent company na Meta . . . “It vastly overstated what this bug was because ultimately it had no meaningful, long-term impact on problematic content.”

Pero sa ulat ng The Verge nakasaad . . . “But the bug was serious enough for a group of Facebook employees to draft an internal report referring to a ‘massive ranking failure’ of content.”

Noong Oktubre, napansin ng mga empleyado na ang ilang nilalaman na minarkahan bilang kaduda-duda ng external media — mga miyembro ng third-party fact-checking program ng Facebook — ay pinaboran ng algorithm para malawak na maipamahagi sa News Feed ng mga user.

Ayon sa The Verge . . . “Unable to find the root cause, the engineers watched the surge subside a few weeks later and then flare up repeatedly until the ranking issue was fixed on March 11.”

Subali’t sinabi ni Osborne . . . “The bug affected ‘only a very small number of views’ of content.”

Aniya . . . “That’s because ‘the overwhelming majority of posts in Feed are not eligible to be down-ranked in the first place. Other mechanisms designed to limit views of ‘harmful’ content remained in place, including other demotions, fact-checking labels and violating content removals.”
