Mayon Volcano itinaas sa alert level 3 – PHIVOLCS

Interview with PHIVOLCS Dir. Toto Bacolcol during Radyo Agila's program "Kapitbahay"

“Kaninang 12nn we raised the alert level sa Mayon Volcano from alert level 2 to alert level 3, alert level 2 means there is an increasing unrest, alert level 3 is increased tendency towards a hazardous eruption, because from 5:00 a.m. yesterday until 5:00 a.m. today, we recorded 98 rockfall events, which is higher than the 46 rockfall events that we detected from morning of June 6 to morning of June 7,” paliwanag ni Director Bacolcol.

“We recommend that the 6-km danger zone, yung mga nakatira dun be evacuated, kailangan i-evacuate sila due to the danger of pyroclastic density current, pwede ring magkaroon ng lava flows, rock falls and other volcanic hazards,” babala pa ni Director Bacolcol.

“We also advise yung mga civil aviation authorities na huwag munang lumipad very close to the volcano summit, pwede kasing magkaroon ng sudden eruption and yung ash would be hazardous to aircraft,” dagdag pa ni PHIVOLCS chief.
