Pilipinas, pasok na sa FIFA Women’s World Cup

Gumawa ng kasaysayan ang Philippine Women’s Football Team, nang talunin nila sa unang pagkakataon ang Chinese Taipei sa score na 4-3 sa penalty shootout sa kanilang paghaharap sa AFC Women’s Asian Cup quarterfinal sa Pune, India.

Pinangunahan ni Olivia McDaniel ang koponan ng Pilipinas, makaraang harangin ang dalawang spot kicks mula sa Chinese Taipei.

Labis naman ang tuwa ng kanilang head coach na si Alen Stajcic, at sinabing isang inspirasyon ang panalong iyon ng team.

Ayon kay Stajcic . . . “It was a feat I expected the team to reach as early as 2018. I wouldn’t have taken the job if I didn’t see the potential in them.”

Sa kabila naman ng kaniyang paniwala sa mga ito, inamin ni Stajcic na humanga siya sa bilis ng development ng team mula sa nakaraang edition ng AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

Aniya . . . “For the team to progress this quickly, I’m just running out of superlatives to describe what an amazing achievement this is. To be able to grow and mature and play under this kind of pressure, against teams above us except Indonesia. For us to compete against all of them, just shows how far this group’s grown.”

Susunod na makakaharap ng Pilipinas ang South Korea para sa semifinal.
