Pinakamalaking PH-US Balikatan Exercises pormal na nagsimula
Pormal nang nagbukas ngayong Martes, April 11, ang Balikatan Exercises 2023 sa pagitan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at US Armed Forces.
Ito ang pinakamalaking Balikatan sa loob ng 38 taon kung saan aabot sa halos 18,000 sundalo ang kalahok sa mga aktibidad.
“The Philippines-US Balikatan iteration will have a total of 17,680 participants making this exercise the largest ever of the AFP and the US Armed Forces as well as our counterparts from the Australian Defense Force,” ayon kay AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino.
Magkasamang magsasanay ang tropa sa interoperability partikular sa maritime security, amphibious operations, live-fire training, urban and aviation operations, cyber-defense, counterterrorism, at maging sa humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness.
Dagdag pa ni Centino, sa pamamagitan ng pagsasanay na ito ay magreresulta sa patuloy na hangaring mapanatili ang katatagan at seguridad sa Indo-Pacific Region.
Tiniyak naman ng AFP at US Armed Forces na hindi makaka-apekto ang Balikatan sa tensyon sa West Philippine Sea at kasalukuyang sitwasyon sa Taiwan Strait.
Isinagawa ang PH-US Balikatan Exercises matapos ang 3-araw na war games naman na inilunsad ng China para palibutan ang isla ng Taiwan.
Ayon kay MGen. Marvin Licudine, Philippine Balikatan Director, “Balikatan is a year-and-year activity between the US and the Philippines as part of our Mutual Defense Treaty in strengthening our interoperability cooperation in military level.”
Dagdag naman ni MGen. Eric Austin, US exercise director representative “Through this exercise, the Philippine and US forces will sharpen our inter-operability, increase our proficiency and complement our capabilities through collaboration, ensuring we are prepared to respond to real-world challenges together.”
Kasama sa mga naka-linyang aktibidad ang live-fire exercises sa karagatan ng Zambales kung saan palulubugin ang isang barko gamit angmga makabagong armas at equipment ng AFP.

Kasama rin sa aktibidad ang renovation ng 3 community health centers at multipurpose halls, gayundin ang hands-on training sa advanced emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques.
