Quota sa rice importation, pinatatanggal para magmura ang presyo ng bigas

Pinatatanggal na ni Senator Sherwin Gatchalian ang Quantitative restrictions sa iniimport na bigas.

Sa harap ito ng pagsirit ng inflation rate o pagmahal ng presyo ng mga bilihin.

Naghain si Gatchalian ng Senate Bill 1839 na layong paamyendahan ang Republic Act No. 8178 the Agricultural Tariffication Act na ipawalang bisa ang 35 percent na taripa sa bigas.

Kapag napagtibay, maaring bumaba sa 36 pesos kada kilo ang presyo ng bigas mula sa kasalukuyang 44 pesos o katumbas ng 3600 pesos na average savings ng bawat pamilya.

Layon rin ng panukala na bumuo ng rice competitiveness emhancement fund para pataasin ang rice productivity at modernisasyon ng mga sakahan sa pilipinas.

Senador Gatchalian:
“The spirit of this bill is to maintain the balance of interests between our rice farmers and rice consumers. Reducing the market price of rice will lower household expenditures and increase the supply of food on the plates of underprivileged Filipinos. At the same time, providing well-functioning and sustainable social safety nets to rice farmers would ensure that their welfare is protected and their continued productivity is secured”.
